Through the lens of wife, mother, and daughter I filter experiences, which the painter in me then translates into the color and texture with acrylics. The addition of an array of acrylic mediums transforms traditional acrylic painting into a myriad of expressions. Once bearing a finite personality, acrylics of today are extremely versatile. Experimenting with combinations and pushing the limits of these materials is a joy and challenge.

The imagery of flora resonates with me at this season of my life. I marvel at each unique design, texture, and color. But even more amazing, I marvel that each glorious bloom began as a hard, tiny seed buried in dirt, with no power in itself to be so filled with grace. The seed rests in the soil and must wait to receive nourishment to flourish.

Piedmont Virginia, Charlottesville, has been my home for the last 25 years since marrying Curtis Hathaway, Jr. Our daughters, Anne Clark and Brooke, now both college-bound were born and raised right here. But the rolling hills are a change of pace for me from the flat, eastern North Carolina riverfront town of Washington where I was raised. My family encouraged my interests in art, and I have heard that our early infatuations re-emerge in life. Today I can't wait to run to my paints and create! And I am blessed to still have a family that encourages and indulges my desire to make art.
